Postpartum Doula Sydney

How I can support you mama.

Do you dream about feeling supported, nourished and empowered as you enter your new role into motherhood so you can focus purely on bonding with your baby?

Even though many people may view postpartum care as a luxury, prioritising your wellbeing and feeling supported is absolutely essential for your emotional and physical wellbeing.

Everyone is there to hold the baby, but who is there to hold the mama?

Having a baby is a huge life transition and the first 6 weeks are a crucial time for both mama and mini. This is the length of time it takes for your uterus to shrink back, for the hormones to settle, for the bleeding to stop and to establish breastfeeding. There is so much focus on the care for your baby, when all your baby really needs is you.

I provide holistic postpartum support that honours your unique needs, providing you with the loving care and support you need to focus on your healing, breastfeeding and bonding with your baby. From nourishing meals to breastfeeding support and practical assistance, I am here to help lighten your load and help you have the postpartum experience of your dreams.

As a mama of two myself, with professional holistic nutrition expertise for mothers and babies, and postpartum doula training, I am able to offer a unique blend of support that addresses your physical, emotional, nutritional and practical needs. I want you to feel empowered as you step into your new role as a parent with confidence, to trust your own instincts and intuition as you navigate motherhood.

I understand the importance of nutrition during this phase of life, and how what you eat plays a vital role in you and your baby’s wellbeing. This is why all of my in-person packages include a nourishing meal bundle. Not only is the food extremely warming and nourishing for those early days, but it will provide you with the nutrients you need during this time to support healing and breastfeeding. All meals I cook are naturally gluten free, but I am also able to cater to all other dietary requirements too. I use only the highest quality ingredients and focus on organic, spray-free, grass-fed, pasture raised and wild-caught where possible. Having someone make a home cooked meal for you is like a big warm hug, and all mamas deserve to be held during this time.

What a visit looks like with me:

Our postpartum support packages include a series of 2 hour home visits tailored to your needs. I will be there to hold you on whatever you need for that day, so you can focus on healing, recovering and bonding with your baby. During these visits I can provide support with:

  • Nourishing meals: Food is my love language and I can’t wait to nourish you with all the beautiful postpartum foods to support your healing, recovery and your breastfeeding journey.

  • Emotional support: I will be there to hold space for you, to listen and for you to share your birth story with when and if you are ready.

  • Practical assistance:  I can help with light housework (such as packing the dishwasher, laundry, changing the sheets, etc.), picking up groceries/coffee/anything else you need on my way over, attending appointments with you, first outings, and even wearing your baby whilst I do the above if you wish.

  • Physical support: I can run a bath for you, support you with belly binding and help you get around.

  • Nutritional guidance: I can support you with nourishing foods to eat and a personalised supplement protocol based on your unique needs and dietary preferences if you wish for an extra fee (see more below).

  • Postpartum recovery: I can holistically support you with your recovery from both a vaginal or caesarean birth, as well as other common postpartum conditions.

  • Breastfeeding support: Support with breastmilk production, nourishing foods to eat, holistic remedies for common conditions, latching and different positions to feed in.

  • Newborn care: Gentle support with settling, swaddling and bathing your baby. I can also be there to hold the baby if you wish so you can take a bath, shower, nap or pop out for some alone time.

  • Sibling care: As a mama of two myself, I know what a big adjustment it can be bringing another baby into the world. I can be there to support you and your little ones through this huge transition. I can also be there to play with older ones or hold your newborn so you can have some special time with older siblings.

  • Parenting style: I will support you in using your own instincts and intuition to feel confident in making empowered choices for your family.

  • Evidence-based information: I am here to listen to your questions and help you navigate what feels right by providing evidence-based resources.

  • In-home extras I can arrange: Treatments such as massage, traditional belly binding, postpartum rituals, yoga, mini photoshoot, mothers blessings, holistic sleep support and a IBCLC can be arranged at an extra charge. I also offer discounted postpartum nutrition consults for my beautiful in home mamas (see more below).

Whether it is your first baby or your fourth, I believe that every mama deserves to feel supported, nourished and empowered during this transformative journey into motherhood. I would love to work with you to ensure you have a well rested postpartum journey and embrace this beautiful new chapter of motherhood. “Mel was a vital support during my first difficult postpartum. She looked at my health holistically to help improve my physical and mental wellbeing. She provided me with up to date knowledge on how to treat blocked ducts and helped with my breastfeeding latch.

For my second postpartum Mel supported me with nourishing foods from the moment my baby arrived in hospital. The food was delicious and nourishing and I knew my body was getting exactly what it needed to heal and support breastfeeding. So different from hospital food. I'm so grateful for all the advice and support she has given me”
